ASCEND’s Lisa Weightman named Female Distance Runner of the Year 2009!

ASCEND sponsored athlete Lisa Weightman has been named as R4YL magazine’s Female Distance Runner of 2009!

The runner’s bible calls Weightman the “new queen” of Australian distance running.  The Beijing Olympian features in the top five Australian rankings over four distances (5,000m, 10,000m, Half Marathon and Marathon).  Keep an eye out for Weightman as she goes for gold at the Delhi Commonwealth Games this October!

Congratulations also go to the runner up Female Distance Runner of the year, another ASCEND sponsored athlete, Madeleine Pape.  Pape won her first national title in March, then went on to win the 800m at the World University Games, earning her a spot on the World Championship team.

We’re expecting big things from Pape in 2010, starting with the Briggs Athletic Classic on February 12th.  On February 27th, Pape will defend her 800m title at the Sydney Track Classic.
