The inaugural 2XU Falls Creek Triathlon was held on Sunday, February 13th, 2011. It was a spectacular course with stunning alpine views and an amazing trail run. At 1600 metres above sea level, this is Australia’s highest triathlon.

Conditions were almost perfect with the sun shining and a slight breeze, but the 2km/80km/20km course definitely proved a challenge to all competitors. Many reported that it was the toughest race they had done, with the altitude and undulating trail run taking its toll.

Madeleine Oldfield continued her stellar season to win convincingly in the Women’s Elite category, with Liz Blatchford second and Michelle Wu third. Oldfield has won all four of the Victorian Gatorade Tri Series races this season and it seems to be going from strength to strength.

70.3 ironman champion and race favourite Leon Griffin was first over the line for the men, with Czech Sydney Olympic bronze medallist Jan Rehula next and a young Lindsey Wall coming in third.

All competitors received an ASCEND Total Recovery drink at the finish line. With 12.5 grams of hydrolysed whey protein, 21 grams of carbohydrates as well as electrolytes, Total Recovery is the perfect post race drink for endurance athletes.
